FAQ's

What age is this program for?

This specific program is for ages 12 to 15 or generally Jr. High 6th through 8th grade. We have other programs for Rookie athletes 7-11 and high school athletes 14 and up too! Learn more at www.a3sportsperformance.com.

What does the Jr. High Learn to Lift Program include?

Our Strength "Learn to Lift" program offers small group coaching that's developmentally appropriate, meaning we customize the program based on athletes' age, skill, and developmental level to make sure they learn the right form, technique, get results, and stay safe. Every 60-minute session is led by a Coach throughout and includes a dynamic warm-up, weightlifting instruction, a strength workout to apply the techniques learned, as well as plyometrics and core training to develop power and athleticism. We teach athletes weightlifting to be more athletic - not just how to stand in one place and lift a heavy bar (looks cool, but does not make for better athletes). This is not a large group program and we maintain a ratio of approximately 1 Coach to 8 Athletes.

What times are offered for the small group coaching sessions?

The summer program will have an option for 9AM, but we always have sessions at 4:30PM and 5:30PM as well.

How much does it cost?

We have a few options based on the amount of sessions per week and whether the program is Strength only or our Total Athlete Program for Speed training, but our rates for small group, personalized coaching range from about $180 to $300 per month.

Who are your Coaches?

We have a team of Coaches who are dedicated to your athlete's success! Our Coaches are highly qualified in their areas of expertise (e.g. strength, speed, sport skills, youth, etc.). Most have degrees in Kinesiology and many have advanced degrees and certifications (5 Master's degrees and counting!). But beyond credentials, we have a team of good people who care. Our job is to provide quality coaching, helpful and positive feedback, and build confidence. Our Coaches are all background checked too and many of them are teachers or substitutes by day! See the whole team at https://a3sportsperformance.com/about.

Is it safe for my adolescent to lift weights?

IF done correctly with proper form and technique and guided by a coach, then 100% yes. The myth still persists that weightlifting prematurely could harm growth plates or hinder performance, and of course it's a good question to ask when it comes to your child! But 30 years of research tells us the opposite is true. Strength training is considered safe, effective, and helpful for kids ages 8 and up, with adolescents being ready for more complex movements and load around age 12. If injuries do happen, they're linked to misuse of equipment, improper technique, or lack of coaching. Safety is a main priority for us at A3 and we take your athlete's well-being and safety very seriously! It's why we focus on movement before load and every part of the training sessions are led by highly qualified coaches. This is not the place where you come for a "whiteboard workout." In addition to muscle and strength gains, your child can benefit from more confidence, improved mood, better endurance, better focus, and great work ethic!

I'm not sure what my kid needs....

We get it! Your adolescent is growing and changing, there's a lot of information out there, and a lot to juggle with the demands of sports and the family schedule! The best thing to do is meet with one of our professional coaches (a sit-down in the office), who can help give you some clarity (even if this program isn't right for you right now, we pride ourselves on delivering value and coaching for everyone who walks through our doors). We'll learn about your child's goals and needs, training and sports experience, and help make the best game plan for success.
